The key to not losing your security deposit is communication. You must consult with your landlord for the decorations you want to put up. This is so they are aware of what you want to do with the house, or the room. If your ideas are not allowed, you can think of an alternative immediately.

For instance, your landlord might not let you paint your walls, or drill some holes to put some photos up. Now, this does not necessarily mean that you have to spend your days staring at plain walls at home.

That is where we come in! We are giving you these awesome tips that will help you decorate and jazz up your wall without losing your security deposit. The best part is that these are temporary decoration that you can take down anytime you want. This way, you can re-decorate or take it down any time you want.

  1. Putting pictures up? Use Command strips. Nowadays, you can put decorations up without picking up the drills, hammer and nails. You can easily use removable adhesive hanging strips. These adhesive strips are very handy. They can even hold heavy frames. Just make sure you get the strip variety that is appropriate for the size and weight of your decoration. Decorate Without Losing Your Depositc8e7790fb22813ba98faa2275def9d26
  2. Do-It-Yourself wall decals. We have discussed wall decals before. Of course, you can always purchase it on your nearest craft store, but where’s the fun in that? By making your very own wall decal, you can customize your design and make the vibe feel more like home. You can easily do this by using contacting paper or removable wall vinyl. All you will need to do is plot your design on the backing of the contact paper/wall vinyl. Keep in mind that the design will be reversed when viewed from the front of the vinyl. Don’t say I didn’t warn you. Then, cut out the contact paper according to your design. Wipe your wall and make sure it is dust-free. Peel the vinyl away, and stick it on a clean wall. Using a plastic card as a squeegee, you can remove air bubbles as you work. Pretty easy, right? If you do not feel like drawing your own design, you can just print out a design using your computer. Note: Before you do anything, test a small bit of the contact paper in an inconspicuous area such as your closet or a corner before applying it to a large area. Leave it up there for at least six hours before peeling it away. If it doesn’t leave any sticky residue, it should be safe atop washable paint finish in your apartment.  Decorate Without Losing Your Depositc50c12b28ec34d4eeeb07382df92ba76
  3. Get creative with washi tapes. Washi tapes are just like painter’s tape, but are more playful and colorful. The best part is that it is temporary, so you can easily peel it off the wall without leaving any sticky residue. Just make sure you are using quality washi tapes to make sure that the tape can be removed easily. If you find that the tape won’t easily peel away, you can apply heat from a hair dryer. Just keep it on a low or medium heat. This will help soften the adhesive. If you find any sticky residue despite using a quality tape, you can remove that with a citrus-based sticker remove. However, it is always important to test these sticker removers first in an inconspicuous area to be sure that they do not stain the wall.cff97eb9f9fbded345aa5bc14797f1ae
