1. Blake House Late Night Christmas Shopping Extravaganza, Braintree
This Christmas Extravaganza takes place at Blake House Craft Centre in Braintree on Monday 28th November from 6pm – 10pm. A perfect chance to grab some hand-made Christmas presents, cards and stocking fillers. There is also a hog roast for you to enjoy while you watch the Extravaganza’s fireworks finale to end the night. 2. We Are Handmade Contemporary Christmas Craft and Design Fair, Stock
Be inspired by an amazing range of unique and vintage-inspired handmade designs at the Wickham Bishops Village Hall. You can enjoy browsing for gift ideas at over 30 stalls. 3. Crafts for Christmas – The Guild of Essex Craftsmen Fair
The market will be inside Riverside Leisure Centre; with over 100 stalls selling varied festive crafts, gifts and treats for everyone. If you’re bringing the kids there’s plenty for them to enjoy – they can meet Olaf from the Disney hit film Frozen, or have their picture taken with Santa himself in his festive photo booth. As well as a range of other character appearances and fun activities. Entry to the market is £1 per person and all proceeds from entry money is being donated to the Essex Air Ambulance service. 4. Beth Chatto Gardens Christmas Fair, Colchester
This fair is a great day out for the family. Take a walk around the beautiful grounds before enjoying over 30 stalls, packed with local crafts and ideas for gifts. There will be carol singers and traditional Christmas music to get you in the mood, and if you feel peckish, there’s festive fare including delicious mulled wine, mince pies and Christmas pudding. The Beth Chatto Gardens Christmas Fair is on 26-27 November, from 10am – 4pm. Entry is £1 for adults and 50p for children with all proceeds going to the local Scout group. 5. Brentwood Festive Craft & Gift Market
If you live in Brentwood, don’t miss the Festive Craft and Gift market at The Brentwood Centre. With over 200 trade stands selling a variety of toys and games, gifts, jewellery and festive food, you’re bound to find something to get you into the Christmas spirit. It’s the perfect family day out, even the dog is welcome!. The market takes place on 5/6th November 10am – 5pm (Sat); 10am – 4pm (Sun). Entry is £5 for Adults and £2 for Children. 6. Maldon High Street Vintage Christmas Fayre and Light Switch On
Maldon’s High Street will come alive on Thursday 24th November with a special Vintage Christmas Fayre event. The Christmas lights will be switched on by the Town Mayor alongside late night shopping and a street market with choirs, music, hospitality hosted by the local shops and competitions. The event opens at 6pm with the Christmas lights coming on at 7pm. Entertainment will be provided by Saint FM from the big stage found next to All Saints’ Church on the High street and Santa and his reindeer will be in town from 6-8pm. 7. Winter Wonderland Weekend, Abberton
If you’re looking for a festive outing for all the family, then Abberton Reservoir Visitor Centre is the place to visit, as Santa himself will be in his grotto to see all the children. There are lots of stalls where you can find Christmas presents, stocking fillers and unique, handmade cards. Entry is free but a £10 donation is required for visits to Santa which will include a free present. The fair is on 17/18th December from 10:00am – 3pm. Visit the website for more information.
8. Shenfield Christmas Market
Shenfield has its own Christmas market in the town centre where you’ll find lots of original gifts and food. It’s also offering a host of activities including a small stage with live music, local school and town choirs – and of course, Santa will be there with his sleigh. The market is on Sunday 4th December, from 1pm – 5pm.
9. Great Dunmow Christmas Market
Markets have been part of the fabric of Great Dunmow since the town grew up under the Romans many centuries ago. And there’s no better market than that which celebrates the festive season. The Christmas shopping day includes plenty of stalls and a continental food market. Santa will be there to meet the children. The market is on Sunday 11th December. 10. Guild of Essex Craftsman Christmas Craft Fair, Billericay
The finest of the county’s craftsmen will be showing their skills and selling their wares in Hylands House, Chelmsford. Only individuals who handcraft their own goods are allowed to join the guild so there’s sure to be some high quality gifts for Christmas. Admission is £3.80 per ticket and children under 16 accompanied by an adult go free. The fair takes place 3/4th December from 10am – 4pm.
